Services
Please find listed below the most common types of treatment and services we have to offer:
Initial Consultation Appointment:
The initial consultation is an extended appointment for the first time we see you, and includes taking a medical history so that we are aware of any medical problems or medications that may either effect your treatment plan, or may have an effect on your feet over a period of time, so that we can continue to monitor your health and feet and continue to give you the appropriate advice and guidance.
NB: As registrants of the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), we are professionally and legally bound to ensure that we have a full medical history before starting any treatment. (Any information given to us is treated with the strictest of confidence.)
We then, where applicable, complete a full foot health assessment which includes checking your foot pulses, any loss of feeling (dependant on your medical history), recording specific information about your feet and any complaint that you are having.
Once we have a full history and completed all your details and have a better understanding of your main or immediate concern is, we will then discuss with you the options that are available and provide the treatment necessary to address your immediate problem.
This may be simply having your toe nails cutting, to which we will discuss with you whether or not you qualify for our 'simply' treatment plan, or the removal of corns, hard skin (callus), the initial treatment of a verucca, or the padding or strapping of a painful foot.
More complex, or multiple treatments/problems may require more than one appointment which will be dealt with and treated as part of the Enhanced Treatment plan.
Simply Treatment: Top
If your main concern or need is just to have your toe nails looked after and there are no other pathological problems associated with them, such as extremely thickened or ingrowing, then you may qualify for the 'simply' treatment plan. This will be discussed and identified at your initial consultation. Terms and conditions apply.
Enhanced Treatment:
This will include the routine treatment of any problematic or painful nails, the reduction of hard skin and verrucaes, and removal of corns, or further treatment of foot pain from your initial consultation. As always, we will continue during these appointments, to provide advice as necessary on the care of your feet.
Home Visits:
Whilst we always, where possible, ask our patients to attend the clinic as this encourages continued mobility, we do understand that there will be those who are unable to leave the house or use public transport etc. and so we are happy to offer home visits as necessary.
NB The sorts of treatments available in the home are restricted as some treatments are more beneficial if carried out in a clinical environment (such as biomechanical assessments and orthotics). Please call us to discuss.
Verrucae treatment: Top
Once we have determined it is indeed a verucca, as they can sometimes be confused with corns, we will be able to determine with you which of our treatment packages is most suitable for you.
The types of treatments available are cryotherapy, caustics (acids) which include over the counter preparations and other much stronger acids.
We are now able to offer a Verrucae Needling technique under local anesthetic.
Because they are caused by a virus, verrucas can be difficult to treat and there is never any guarantee that they will not return, even if successfully treated.
The treatments available can be uncomfortable or even painful and we will normally only advise treatment for them if they are affecting your lifestyle due to pain or if they are long standing (over two years duration). The pros and cons of each treatment will be discussed in full before any treatment is started.
Due to their nature, we do not always advocate the use of our treatments for children, but we can provide and give advice on over the counter treatments. If in doubt please call us.
If you wish further advice or guidance then we can discuss that in your initial consultation.
Ingrowing Toe nails: Top
Ingrowing toe nails can be the result of a number of factors including injury to the toe or nail, poorly fitting shoes, poor nail cutting, a thickened or misshapen nail or more usually some combination of any of these things.
Most can be dealt with easily if treated soon enough. In our experience the longer an ingrowing or troublesome nail is left, the more likely that nail surgery becomes the only option.
If too painful to treat we are able to offer you treatment under local anesthetic, such as with nail surgery, to reduce the discomfort felt during treatment.
Nail Surgery: Top
Nail surgery is always the last option for a troublesome nail. This will involve numbing the toe with a local anesthetic before removing part of or the whole nail before treating it with a chemical to stop either the whole nail or part of the nail from re-growing.
The procedure is fairly simply and nothing like what you may see on the internet. Between us we have experience in nearly 3000 nail surgery procedures, and very few people will say it was as bad as they were expecting, even if they've had it done some where else before!
If you require this treatment then rest assured you're in very safe and experience hands.
Biomechanical Assessment: Top
Most injuries or pain to the foot or feet will generally resolve by themselves over a period of time. The trouble is that they can impact on your life or work, which in turn can increase the healing time and so on.
Whilst we would love to be able to wave a magic wand and resolve any pain or complaint there and then, sometimes the best result is just to reduce the healing process time, and more importantly the amount of pain or discomfort felt. This can be achieved with the use of therapeutic intervention or treatments such as padding and strapping as part of an enhanced consultation, and more importantly by giving the correct advice for each type of injury, not all advice works for every person.
If a problem persists or is chronic in nature then a biomechanical or musculoskeletal assessment may be indicated to identify a more in-depth problem such as the way you walk or the way in which your body aligns itself from the neck to the back, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Quite often people may have seen a physiotherapist and then have been referred to a podiatrist, the same as sometimes we would refer you on to a physiotherapist for more appropriate treatment.
Once the assessment is completed, we will then have a better idea of the sort of insole or orthoses you may benefit from to help reduce the impact of any muscular or skeletal problem you are having.
Insole and orthotics manufacture: Top
We offer a range of simple insoles and orthotics that can be tailor made for you by us at the clinic, or can be sent away to be manufactured by specialist laboratories. These will be determined and discussed as part of your treatment plan or biomechanical assessment.
Silicones and sundries:
We have in stock a number of items that may be beneficial to you and your feet ranging from custom fitted cushioning insole, silicone toe pads, anti fungal (athletes foot) treatments, custom made silicone toe supports and separators, and specialist creams available only from clinics such as ours.
We also have a wide collection of catalogues from which we are able to source most things related to the foot and foot care, often at prices cheaper than the big retailers.
Advice and Guidance. Top
We will always try to provide as much honest and frank advice and guidance as possible through out your treatment plan.
Please note that we do not offer footbaths or foot massage as part of our treatment. We are not qualified in massage, and footbaths can place an increased infection control risk and are in most cases totally unnecessary.
We feel and hope that the high levels of knowledge, experience and treatment that we offer means that we do not need to offer any gimmicks to enhance the service that we can offer you.
We are foot health professionals, registered and regulated by the HCPC, and our aim is to provide the best treatment to you and would rather you benefit from your time spent with us by having the appropriate treatment and advice.
